Details
Set in four acres of landscaped gardens and wild meadowland, our beautiful house, L'Ancien Relais Poste, is located in the rolling hills of the Puy de Dome. The 19th Century country house, bordered by a meandering trout stream on two sides, has been lovingly restored and offers more than 375-sq. m of living space over three floors. The property comprises a sitting room, dining room, reading room, office, kitchen and utility room along with 4 double bedrooms and two bathrooms. Built on solid granite rock, the house has four impressive fireplaces carved out of the volcanic rock. In the cellar there is an old well and the remains of a bread oven.
In 2004 a French architect, sympathetic to retaining the traditional features of a country house, was appointed to design and renovate the top floor living area and the former stable. We now have four further en-suite bedrooms and a guest lounge which form the "chambres d’hotes" accommodation. This has proved very popular with local people and tourists alike.
Adjoining the main house is a listed 18th century stable and in 2006 this was tastefully converted to provide a gite that offers approximately 110 sq. m of living space. A generous sized fully equipped kitchen and a separate utility room lead into an open plan living area and dining room. There are two en-suite double bedrooms and an airy mezzanine lounge area. The fully furnished gite is advertised through Chez Nous and can be viewed by inserting property number 16449 on their website. This has additional photos and information of the property.
In the grounds there is a large stone built barn available for renovation that could provide approximately 375 sq m of accommodation over three levels.
All the windows in the main house and the gite are double-glazed. The oil central heating operates thermostatically controlled radiators throughout, apart from the ground floor of the main house, which has under-floor heating. There is an additional wood-burning stove in the sitting room.
Saint Dier has all the amenities for your everyday needs but within a radius of 25kms there are the towns of Thiers, Billom and Courpierre. The University town of Clermont Ferrand with its International airport is only 30minutes drive away!
