The region has three departments (the Creuse, Haute-Vienne and the Corrèze) but only one city, Limoges (170,000 inhabitants), which is famous for its porcelain.

The Limousin is an agricultural region, with many livestock farms (its beef has a high reputation) and large forests which form a base for wood and paper production.
